Original used the deer hair collar as a wing; on this version it’s more a hackle sub.

Wings on traditional Sparkle Duns are problematic for me (actually, they suck); these I get right more often than not. I also love the built-in PFD the butts provide. Wouldn’t normally use white for a shuck but all of my Congo Hair is 1300 miles away.

shuck - Congo Hair white
body - Ice Dub hare’s ear
wing/thorax - deer hair
collar - sharptail grouse
head - Ice Dub hare’s ear (loosely dubbed and brushed back along the wing/body)

Scott

Scott,
I like all the flies you post, but that one is just fantastic.

I’m in a bit of a rut. I need to refill some SRC favorites. Also need to start tying up dozens of stinger clousers for coho and a couple dozen Dalai Lama’s and moorish mice for an upcoming AK trip. That all feels like work though. I need some inspiration for new salty patterns. Time to dig through old @Kfish posts I think :).

In the meantime. Playing around with some smallish articulated patterns. Trying to stay simple but effective. Not sure what I’ll fish with these. In the end, like most things SRC will probably eat them.

size 20 RS2. I’ve got 23 more of these as part of an order. And 4 dozen other microscopic dries. I hate my life, why do I say yes to these orders? Oh because it keeps my skill level up and gives me something else to complain about

First attempt with an aftershaft shoulder left a lot to be desired; much happier with the oversized hen. Need to try this one on the water before I decide if the hackle needs trimming out underneath
