I've had a Chukar skin for about 5 years and never really gave it much thought; lightbulb finally went off. The feathers tend to run large so probably nothing smaller than a #10 but it's pretty close to the French.

hook - Dai Riki 300 #10
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - pheasant tail
rib - x-small wire gold
body - tinsel pearl
body hackle - saddle olive
collar - Chuckar partridge

Regards,
Scott

"Acceptable" is a gross understatement. Good start to my 6 am morning. I have two fresh Chukar skins in my freezer. They do have some interesting feathers.

"French partridge" IS chukar. "Red-legged partridge"- same bird.
The Irish have been using flies they call Goslings that are tied like your very tasty version (long PT tails, body hackle fronted with either natural or dyed french partridge to imitate their "Mayfly" for a very long time.
