A Birdsnest variant; found this over on Flytyingforum. Woodduck used here, as per the original pattern; feel free to substitute your favorite waterfowl (or whatever).

hook - Dai Riki 280 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 olive
tail - woodduck flank
rib - tinsel gold
abdomen - dubbing olive
legs - woodduck flank
wing - barred woodduck
thorax - dubbing dark olive
bead - 1/8 nickel black

mash barb, slide bead onto hook, jam against eye with some wraps of non-tox; start thread, wrap to bend

measure (gap width past bend) some woodduck fibers; tie in/trim

tie in rib

dub thread/dub abdomen

counterwrap rib; tie off/trim

trim out center of woodduck feather; measure (tips to rear of abdomen), tie in/trim

measure (tips to bend) barred fibers; tie in/trim

dub thorax; half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Regards,
Scott

Cool variant. Really like the idea of the original pattern, but no fish to hand, so they stay dry in the box. This seems worth a shot.
