Dennis was a good college coach.
Yes he was and he should have never left Oregon St.
Like a lot of coaches and their egos, he needed to right a wrong on how his tenure with the Seahawks ended.
Taking the 49er job was a huge mistake.

Some coaches are just better fit for the college game while others should stick to the pro game.
Very few have done both well.

176-97-1 is a pretty good college coach.

40-56 is not a very good NFL coach.

I still remember the Jets game where they ruled Testaverde had scored. TV replays showed he obviously did not. Many people say THAT was the reason instant replay became the rule in the NFL the very next season. Erickson was fired at the end of that year.

He had one of the all time great "disgusted facial expressions" when his teams would screw up.

But if he had stayed at Oregon state, we might be talking about him as one of the all time best.

Don James knew where his expertise lied. He was persued for the NFL, but declined when asked to go there. He is one of the all time greats in college football.

Besides Miami, the game I most enjoyed watching Erickson coach was Oregon St versus Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.
Oregon State played like his old Miami teams and had something like 15 personal fouls during the game.
Regardless of all the penalties, they still kicked the shit out of Notre Name 41-9.

Another Irish no show in a big game.
