A spark lights
in the forest
No flint needed
The flames ignite
uproarious with
Enthusiasm and glee
Tinder everywhere
In this dry night
The flames reach high
Higher than you would think
Cresting trees and
sending sparks and ash
Into the heavens above
Folks hear the alarm
and get to it
Risking their lives
So we get through this
No one thinks of such
A situation here
Our summers are mild
And sky usually clear
But something happened
To our regimented lives
Nature has shrugged and
Thrown us a surprise
So we live on
Not seeming to care
Until catastrophe shows
that we need to care
About our actions
The aggregate of stupidity
The carelessness
The oblivious nature
We seem to exhibit
Naturally.

The Last Resort

Deep in the desert
The heat distorts
Hardpan fissures
Lead up to the resort
The shape is distant
A cathedral of sorts
It’s a long way ahead
There are women
Lithe and bikini clad
Bronzed by the sun
Shimmering
In the distant haze
It's taken me a while
Been driving for days
The valet waits
As the days heat abates
It’s an oasis in sand
A surprise destination
In this arid land
So thirsty
And tired of this journey
My hands on the wheel
Can’t wait to be free
It’s been a hard life
Imprisoned by strife
But I deserve this
I want it bad
So little chances
I have had
I envision
A paradise
On the horizon
A place in my mind
Away from this prison
This cell of one.
This chair is hard
That I sit in with
A crackling sound
My wrists are bound
I am wearing a hat
To protect me
from the heat.

Timely

What we saw was hope
And rock n roll
Teen angst and trying to cope
shadows of a future pall,
Yeah we didn’t know
What dreams to forego

The future looked bright
Just like shiny chrome
We played 45's Rock n roll and jive
Time flies while we're alive….

I walk, I talk, I think
About the simple times,
I reflect and imbue
the reflections I knew,

Yeah, there you go
I remember all so well.
Those foggy memories,
The feelings so true

The way time talks
With whispers of sages
We live and love,
Turning life’s pages

Hey, you know what they say?
Looking back there is a price we pay...
Polaroid memories, we still have today
We see past shadows that stretch our days.

new one...or new old one...about the 4th rewrite...Crane and I are working on a song...We have about 15 songs I have written ...as poems and have been learnio ng to convert to lyrics...it is not easy...

Simple Times

I was born in 53 a post world war infancy
Doo ***, Elvis and Haley….with a Korean mêlée'

The future looked bright like shiny chrome
We lived our life and called it home
The juke box played 45's rock and roll and jive
Time just flies while you're alive

What we had was hope and rock n roll teenage angst in the
Shadow of a future pall, yeah we didn’t know…what dreams to forego…

Big Cars and Fat cigars with food put by in jars…a
Kind of naive sublime…of those Simple Times…
Riding in the back seat, viewing what we all see
Through the windshield of destiny…of those
Simple Times….those Simple Times

We love days long gone by
As they pass into the night
We see some destined subtlety
And gauge the meaning of our plight

I like the first 2/3 's of it that Crane recorded a couple days ago...it is getting reworked...he is quite the vocal chameleon...this one sounds like a warren Zevonesque one...prviously he was channeling Pete townsend...ha!

a new one this morning...might edit a bit...?

Just Fine

Understanding who we are
And where we have been
We see the miracle of our time
Showing us where to begin
From the depths of sleep
Our memories keep us
Tied to Life’s majesty
Plying us to be, with sympathy
Another day another time
If you ask me I’m doing fine
We love days gone by
As days pass to night
We gauge our plight
Hey what do you say?
Let memory serve us better today
Understanding who we are
And where we have been
We see the miracle of our time
Showing us where to begin
Another day another time
If you ask me I’m doing just fine

Hell another poem off into the ether...
Harvest Moon...

The moon walks
Across the heaven
With measured steps
Careful and regular
As if wading through
Water and the mundane
Repeated light
Anticipated sight
The moon emerges
In it's stages
Man with hope
Of revealed sight
Helps us cope
With that tangible
Display above
Giving us meaning
Even in this
We look for some
Present , prescient
Indicator that
Makes us calm
And collected
Safe and sane
In heavens refrain
In display above
We need that
Primordial hug
Of comfort
That tells us
Through the cycles
Of life and effort
That the harvest moon
Is a punctuation
Of great meaning
A significance
A crescendo
And affirmation

The past many years I have been writing poems to accompany paintings...here is a recent one

Here is irony...this was compiled from comments on a very long thread here on WFF...all assembled into a sort of weird arse free form poem of which I believe you might have contributed to...with most likely your above comment or something like it...Ha!

Earth and Light

Rotating thoughts
Around the axis
the meridian
Solar and lunar
Seem always there
A parade of shadows
A processional of
Quiet timing
We all know
The quest of time
Increments of
The sublime
Let’s observe
Shall we find
Analogy and truth
In that plein air
If we have
The nerve
To transcend
The literal
And linear
To break that
Barrier of
Channeled
Thought.

Head and Heart

Shadows fall on words
Muffled and obscure
My Intent of thoughts are
Well meaning and secure
In this head of mine
Yet I wonder if the time
Is right for the obtuse
And interpersonally sublime
Spontaneity is king
A royal slather on the wing
If no one cares or brings
A brief encounter or comment
What does any of it mean
Perhaps idiosyncrasy
A display of confusion and thought
Unhinged, unrelated to
the understanding of naught
This is a free for all
of words meant for all
To determine if sanity
Is for all thought
Words dance through
My head and heart
And convey in disarray
A kind of battle fought.
Head and heart
A kind of battle, fought
Endlessly...

The Train

We walk the track
Evening sky stained
I look around
He does the same
Come here ,son
do you hear the train?
it's around the bend
Calling it's name
Repetition,
Repetition
Repetition...
Say it fast son.

Human Kind

When we live
We see what is
Around us
A drama and
Acceptance of ilk
What we see
What we eschew
And make
Are we aware
Of this kind
Of time passage
Evolving ?
And observe
A kind of
Awareness
Of who we are
And begin to know
Who we
Have become.

when one poem leads to another...

Repetition

Here we sit
Like sofa and chair
Pulled by strings
As if we are aware
Time passes quickly
Knitted to the past
Consider this part...
Head and heart
Somehow sleeping
The days away
What we say
And what we do
An admission of
The human condition
As if wrapped
in a blanket
Of self inflicted
Imposition
From the past
We should learn
From pages turned
Been there
Done that
Repetition,
Repetition,
Repetition.

Signs

Don't walk, sign here
Please be quick
Wait here
Stop, yield, slow
So many more
We are supposed
To know
Dark sky,
Lightening above
It's getting dark
there is a dove
A whispering wind
Speaks poetically
A breath or puff
A sigh, so delicately
All are signs
We are witness
Many react
In a similar way
Like we are
Supposed to
Some signs are
Subtle and implied
A shrug, a wince
A wink or nod
Hands clasped
As if praying
A furtive glance
Closed eyes
Signs seen
When you
Close your eyes
But then
You might
Hear them.

No one will look at this so WTF...big chnages in my life

This is a story...

Love , He Said.

I met a girl
a sweet blonde haired girl
we pretended to be
a thing i think
I loved her i thought
as we danced around
Pretending,
And thought we were...
Then she said
I met someone else
I was gone, crushed
So life moved forward
Marriages , boyfriends
girlfriends and such
Lives built, grandkids
and a pause in time
Then i thought
Lets have coffee
My long time friend
Both single, a long time
We didn't commprehend
That was when we met
we would connect
We were so young
In the begin
We did not know
Naive afraid,a different time
Little did i know she would
Be mine and here we are
Always under the same stars
thinking about the past
My love of my life
Has come back
Four decades have past
and here we are
under the same stars
Loving each other
I am going to marry her
In this distant light
Far away and removed
From that initial sight...
She was always my girl
My jewel from afar
Now a ring is for my girl
This does not happen
Often in this life
When boy and girl reunite...
It is incredible , he said...
And I am crying...

I am getting married again..Oh yeah I am doin' it...she is the one...

Penumbra

There is an edge
A space between
Light and dark
A feathery zone
Between distinct
And obscure
How that translates
To life and thought
Truth, half truths
Or falsehoods
In disguise
How can it be known
What is real, phantom
Or nuanced veil
In nature
Wet edges
Of a lake or river
The surf
Continually incessant
As it washes
With the tide
Dark, wet, patient
A stain, a penumbra
Evidence of occurrence
The heart felt and seen
In the distance between
Love and hate
That thin line
Like a puff of wind
Silent stillness
placating the void
And place between
Bookends in opposition
There is a breath
And a voice
A pause of consideration
A penumbral transition
A pause for thought
Between light and dark
The light is on
Then turned off
Realization
between fading space

Poetry is therapy for me...it pulled me out of tough life stuff...nothing real bad, I just took it hard...I have 200 pages of poems...that's a lot and they don't all suck. Ha!

I melted my fiancee' today...I am thinking about doing poetry readings...I have been writing a long time...been told my voice is amazing by many...I didn't know that...I can't here it
Walking on Clouds

There is love
And then this
Unbelievable compassion
Grace that persists
Where I find myself
Locked into this passion
With a beautiful girl
In this sentient world
I need this , I said
A companion ,a lovely soul
A lovemate to be wed
Because this life is finite
And when it is so real
My heart swells
And i can't adequately
Say what I truly feel
In words and gestures
I want to swallow you up
Absorb your true essence
Jeanne is mmy personal goddess
My undeniable one
The sun fills my heart
Even on dark and rainy days
Because we are as one
What defines true and lasing love?
With heart and heart filled
By whatever is God above?
Maybe , he said. That might be
Perhaps all of this
Has been destined to be
I claim spontaneity
That is my excuse.
Because i am
Walking on clouds.

I have never in this life been so in love with anyone...and i have been in love a lot of times...I am learning now...It is about time.

The Beguine

I want a mate
A piscatorial friend
The water calls
Someone I met again
During mating season
In the water so gin clear
And evocative and near
It makes my Finny heart
Sing as bubbles dance
To the crystal surface
Sending ripples
Across this life
I swim and leap
To the air above
And my fishy heart
Sings in joyous love
My Fin heart
Where are you now?
How can you be
This perfect mate
For me?
Let the mating begin
As the waters call
As I know of no other
To begin the beguine
