Big, small, unique, hard fighter, beautiful colors etc etc etc....
Let's see your favorite fish of 2017!
Dry, nymph, swing, power bait.... I care not. Just hoping to see some fish porn tonight!
Starting off I think my favorite fish of the year was this little chinook caught while fishing with @bartmorrow on his sweet little Whaler.
Fish took a mylar bodied sand lance type pattern early in the morning. Fish was crashing herring and sand lance in swift current right up on the rocks against the beach. Subtle take that didn't feel like anything exciting until I caught up to it and it realized it was hooked. Gave me everything I could handle with the six weight, even out in the boat. Especially tough when it got into the current behind us... Then it really had its way with me. Not the largest fish I've ever caught, but a particularly memorable one. I'm always thrilled to hook a chinook on the fly of any size.
My most memorable bonefish of 2018. I briefly spotted it as a phantom patch of color 80 feet out. Then the sun went dark with cloud. Just in case it was a fish, I sent a long cast to the area, let the coral worm fly sink, and began my retrieve. After a few strips, the sun returned and I saw two nice bonefish following my fly. One pounced on the fly and I strip set. The water erupted and the fun began.
I'm starting to understand the joy of bonefishing.
OK, this one just now, largest of 4 grayling since i got here yesterday, 1270 kilometers from home! Year is finally starting to come together after no spring were i live, went from winter straight to summer, cold up here now, spring in summer! It took a Nalle puh dryfly!
I was just 4 months post emergency 4-way bypass and had missed the entire summer's fly fishing. My son happily joined me on my first outing, a late September "survival celebration" on the Missouri R., guided by Joe Bloomquist. I was so happy that he got the largest fish. I think he was happy about things too...
Sorry for the late response...been out of town. The classic series are high quality reels, manufactured to tight tolerances. A bit high on price point for my budget, but I sniped that one for 100.00 used. I have a Red Truck Deisel as well, and it is built to the same standards with indentical guts. Its my understanding they are manufactured in the same facility as the new Hardy reels. If anybody has another laying around I will gladly take it off your hands for an appropriate used discount.
Jungle Poon, Pacific side; fun because i literally had no idea what to expect on a random trip due to other plans getting canceled. Always bring your flyrod! View attachment 158662
Put this in a trip report already, but thought it deserved a spot here. Biggest pike on fly yet for me. Was trying to get a smaller fish to commit to a popper, sight casting in 18 inches of water. Switched to a 12 inch streamer and first cast this momma came out of weeds from the back and BAM! Game on!
