A vintage attractor from William Blades.

hook - Mustad 9671 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - barred woodduck flank
body - mylar braid silver
throat - calftail white
underwing - calftail white
wing - badger hackle (4)/barred woodduck flank

mash barb, start thread, wrap to bend

strip woodduck from stem, measure (gap width past bend), fold, tie in

tie in braid, wrap forward, tie off/trim (not sure what's chewing the thread up; polished the bobbin tube on Monday)

flip the fly over, measure (tips to point) a sparse clump of calftail; tie in/trim

measure (tips past tail) another clump of calftail; tie in/trim

prep hackles (2 per side), measure (even with underwing); tie in/trim

measure (tip to bend) a barred woodduck segment, one per side

tie in/trim, whip finish, SHHAN (tempted to replace the split woodduck but figure it'll look a lot worse after the first fish hits it)

Scott

Nice.

This pattern is listed in Blade's ©1951 book Fishing Flies and Fly Tying as Badger Frey along with the Furnace Frey and Ginger Frey. All slight variations on a theme. They are more elongated, maybe 4X hook.
If you don't already have the book it's well worth finding.
