Reverse the body colors and it'd make a passable Mother's Day Caddis

hook - Mustad 94840 #10
thread - Danville 6/0 black
rib - oval tinsel gold
body - dubbing rear - olive, front - bright green
body hackle - grizzly dyed olive
wing - hen pheasant
front hackle - brown

mash barb, start thread at 3/4 mark; tie in rib, wrap to bend

dub thread, dub body to 1/2 mark

repeat with bright green to 3/4 mark

tie in hackle, palmer to bend

rib body thru hackle; tie off/trim

trim hackle tip and give everything the Velcro once-over

prepare wing slips

measure (tips to bend), fold, tie in/trim

tie in (folded) hackle by tip

wrap hackle, sweeping fibers back, tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN

Great SBS! How do you get the hackle to go back on this and similar flies? When I have tried it has remained almost completely vertical.

For the body hackle, palmering it front to back tends to tilt the fibers rearward, a bit; brushing it back with the velcro helps, too. For the front hackle, folding it (I draw my scissors blade along the quill), tying it in by the tip then stroking the fibers back while wrapping sets the proper angle; using hackle with a bit of web helps in the folding. Hope this helps.
