Been in the market for an inflatable SUP for a while now but am ready to finally pull the trigger. Looking at Fishing specific boards primarily not really interested in anything without tie down points and would be a plus to have Scotty mounts built in. Something 11’ ish long and at least 34” wide of not wider. If anyone has any experience with SUP fishing and would like to share their experiences please do.
I’d consider something with floatation chambers around the outside. The Badfisher SUP was one the first to use this but I’m not seeing the fishing board on their website. NRS’s Heron is nearly identical from the looks of it and would be a solid option. Helps improve stability and doesn’t seem to compromise performance too much.
I have the NRS reel fishing SUP which was their original fishing board. It’s 11.5’ long and 36” wide with D rings, bungee netting, and Scotty mounts. It’s a stable board but not very quick. Used it a lot in Georgia for carp and bass fishing. I lived in and apartment so it was great having something that would roll up in a backpack. Hasn’t got much use back here in the PNW though. I’d be willing to sell it if you’re interested.

Thanks for the info on the Badfisher, Ive seen them but not in person. They are a bit higher than my price range but I'm not ruling it out yet. Ive seen those NRS reel boards and they look a lot like the Sup on the Fly Boards. Im interested in what you'd ask for the board? I'm really wanting a 6" thick board and I believe yours is 4" But id be open to considering it. Thanks!
Plecop's advice is solid. I have an older Badfisher MCIT that has been great, and the outer chambers do add stability without too much of a corresponding increase in weight or loss of speed -- I'm not interested in selling it, though. Many people seem to approach SUP flyfishing the way they'd load a big boat or kayak, and bring a ton of stuff along. To me at least, that reduces the appeal of a SUP. In their simplest form, SUPs are like the big, open deck on the bow of a flats skiff, with nothing to catch fly line... I've found that I can usually get by with a waterproof satchel or backpack lashed to the rear deck (with just a couple integrated bungies or d-rings), a rod, and a paddle. Much more than that and I wish I would have just brought the big boat. Regardless, good luck in chasing down a board!
I was definitely hoping you'd end that with "it's for sale". That board has been at the top of my list but unfortunately a bit out of my price range new and getting harder to track down used it new for some reason. I have a couple of options in mind and I'm gonna go look at some in person this weekend. Might even take one for a spin.
Thanks funfisher, I actually purchased a board yesterday. Very excited to get out and hunt some carp next weekend. Should make things a lot easier than walking the Columbia river. Maybe ok post a report and some pics of the maiden voyage.
