I have my husband pretty well trained now to know the difference between my "fishing poles" and my "fly rods" :D
I too, however, frequently spoonerize that phrase. As in: "I'm going out to the shop to fly ties - don't lock me out!"

We had more than one person in the store asking "got any of them opst lines". As in the name being the word opst.

"Fishing pole" you don't hear much in BC. Maybe elsewhere in Canada but here it's a rod. And strike indicators ain't bobbers.

For kind of a long time now the Great Lakes has had many more steelhead than we do out west and thus, they don't go "steelhead fishing" they "fish for steelheads."
