Working on my yard throne, a tribute to Captain Ahab....Specifically Chapter 30 (see below)
That right arm I'll white wash a little later when the whale gets shaped some more, below it a shark, that left arm some kind of sea creature not sure yet, maybe eating a juvenile whale. Wife thinks I have gone bonkers, but hey, it's not too bad to sit in and it has all kinds of awesome creaking noises....

When Stubb had departed, Ahab stood for a while leaning over the bulwarks; and then, as had been usual with him of late, calling a sailor of the watch, he sent him below for his ivory stool, and also his pipe. Lighting the pipe at the binnacle lamp and planting the stool on the weather side of the deck, he sat and smoked.

In old Norse times, the thrones of the sea-loving Danish kings were fabricated, saith tradition, of the tusks of the narwhale. How could one look at Ahab then, seated on that tripod of bones, without bethinking him of the royalty it symbolized? For a Khan of the plank, and a king of the sea and a great lord of Leviathans was Ahab.

Some moments passed, during which the thick vapor came from his mouth in quick and constant puffs, which blew back again into his face. “How now,” he soliloquized at last, withdrawing the tube, “this smoking no longer soothes. Oh, my pipe! hard must it go with me if thy charm be gone! Here have I been unconsciously toiling, not pleasuring- aye, and ignorantly smoking to windward all the while; to windward, and with such nervous whiffs, as if, like the dying whale, my final jets were the strongest and fullest of trouble. What business have I with this pipe? This thing that is meant for sereneness, to send up mild white vapors among mild white hairs, not among torn iron-grey locks like mine. I’ll smoke no more-”

He tossed the still lighted pipe into the sea. The fire hissed in the waves; the same instant the ship shot by the bubble the sinking pipe made. With slouched hat, Ahab lurchingly paced the planks.
Awesome on all points

Grow it? I’m gonna burn it, safely ;-) my son and I’s project is a wee fire pit. Dug the hole, levelled stuff, needs a little shaping. Tested fire proofing with some stogie butts, works well :)

This weekend, we build!

Uck Uck Uck, bitches
I saw a PBS show a long time ago...trains of the world or something like that...one program was in Peru with a cog track train climbing to super high elevation villages...locals preparing endless little Peruvian potatoes and amaranth...the amaranth was put in a dry kettle over a fire and tasted until it popped...that intrigued me hence I grew irt in the 80's...to do that...collecting the heads was something i did not really have a plan for and they came up everywhere for years...since then I grew love lies bleeding also an amaranth...as shown in the pics above...about 5 years ago...beautiful plant but tough to winnow...i ended up sifting but unable to get all the chaff out...A true grain amaranth is easier to winnow in a light breeze than love lies... which while a amaranth and edible it is primarily a decorative old garden plant...the chaff is too heavy to truly winnow.

Not from our garden, but had to share. I’m new to Tayberries....they are the cats meow!
11lbs before work yesterday with tha fam :) View attachment 247221 View attachment 247222 View attachment 247223
They look very delicious, I'm new to Tayberries never had them before. They're a cross between a raspberry and a blackberry. They're suppose to be sweeter then a raspberry but from appearance they seem to be more elongated, larger then a raspberry. I'm thinking they'd have the same characteristics as the raspberry where they'd spoil very quickly in a short time if not refrigerated. I've never seem them in the stores before so I'll have to make an effort to find some, yummy..
