You're gutsy Chris. I have to ask a what if question. If for some reason you crashed the drone up there, do you have a way to get it? Or was this a do or die mission?

I ask, because I'm pretty conservative how I fly my drone.

You are a good drone pilot Chris.
In 2014 I bought a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+.
I had never flown anything RC before. After a month of owning my drone, I went to the Cedar River to fly it several feet over the water so I could have a bird’s eye view of the water. I didn’t use my mobile device for viewing the flight, couldn’t tell if it was coming towards me or away from me towards some bushes. It flew into the bushes across the river. Having seen a few fly fishers cross this area the year before, I knew I could wade across to retrieve it, but it was late February and the water was waist deep. Nevertheless, I grabbed a long stick and crossed the river judiciously, clothes and all, and retrieved my (very pricey) drone.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much $ do you have invested in this?

Thanks Roper. I’ve got more $ wrapped up into it in support of the other stuff, like a second drone, memory cards, a costly remote control and 8 flight batteries. That all adds up quick but I’m setup for 3 hours of flight time without recharging a thing. You could do what I do (kit wise) without all the costly extras for under 2K, under 1K really with some of the newer entry level models that are getting better and quick.

Yesterday again I flew the SF Snoq near my house. Flying sport mode with the sensors off. By the way, the wind was hucking yesterday which made for a fun challenge trying to keep things smooth.

Wow! Those videos are very nice.

For me it’s so easy to get sucked into the day to day routine....get up....check my fish porn...drive the same route to and from work...forget to look at the bay or the mountains. Wash, rinse, repeat.

What a great reminder that we live in a beautiful area.

Your video had me wondering how you maintained signal contact with the drone while going through the rocky gorge, and how you navigated back for retrieval.

I hope to get a drone for still photography some day but I should probably learn to fly a cheap one first
