Trip Report When it clicks....

This was from the summer on a well known uber technical fishery. Skunkings are the norm for most but the beauty makes up for it. I've put in enough time on it now that I can consistently get into fish, but this isn't a place you go to put up numbers. The stars aligned one day this summer where I was able to fish it from mid day to dark, and things just clicked. Nymphs, dries, and streamers all produced, probably netted around 50. Can't wait to go back.

I think I know the fishery you're talking about. Unfortunately, I don't recognize the fish; It's only been skunkings for me there. Gorgeous fish!

Did you drink a porter afterwords?
If that’s where I think it is I caught a bully in my first five minutes and then nothing the rest of the day. Satisfying day of fishing none the less...

Very impressive. My one experience with that special place was about 25 years ago. Managed one whitefish which I figured was pretty good for a trout rooky like me.

as usual, whitefish get no respect....poor things.

That's a helluva great day and report! It's nice to see a few streamer eating rainbows in the mix as well!
One of those was an easy 22". Biggest bow I've ever pulled from there. That was the first time I've used that net, fish pond "el jefe", it's huge....good size for summer steelhead actually. Makes trout look small.

that place hands out more skunkings than not. so that's a solid day.
So true. Kicked my ass for years, most days I scrounge up just a few. This day was just different. At dusk when they were sipping on the surface it took me half a dozen flies to get it right, but then it was nearly every drift. Right place right time.

I saw in the new fishing regs that GOTY can only fish weekends in Washington, Oregon’s and Idaho to limit encounters of native trout species. Tough but fair regulation.
