Sorry to read this Ken. Apparently (?) you pigeonholed yourself into a "Set-Fishing-Lodge-Program" !?. I've read on blogs, and seen a few vlog's that bear out Your Situation and that is sad. Others I've come across are just the opposite -- Lots of Flexibility by the Lodge Guides, boat OR fly-in ! I'll be searching in depth for "Ideas," but IF I can go to Alaska, it will be (again) taking my Jeep (2016 WK2), pulling my new/forthcoming Taxa Cricket "Habitat" and "roughing it" on my own terms. Dispersed Camping and some RV parks as well !?. I'll head up via a Ferry out of Seattle or Bellingham, WA. I'll have an Inflatable raft of some kind plus those 3 rods mentioned previously. I hope to be able to make it at least a Month long Adventure . . . not yet sure which time of year yet . Puzzled that you sold the switch rods !?. You bought them JUST FOR this Alaska trip? Based on the waters you were fishing . . . sounds like they had you fishing over spawning fish ?? If that's the case . . . that not only sucks but is IMO unethical and perhaps illegal - not sure of Alaska Fish and Game regs, or the Alaska Trout spawning times?.
No Photos to share? Fish Porn? Where you stayed? What Streams/rivers you fished? this information could help others considering such a trip !?. Thanks for sharing
It wasn't until I read RCF's post that it dawned on me that your "trip of a lifetime" is 10+ years in the future. That's some advance planning, man! Good on you. Assuming you are serious and dedicated to banking as much spare money as possible and one further assumption - you're able to bank...
This is a good thread on related AK trip info. On my particular trip on the Kvichak and surrounding fishing areas, they are only accessible by float plane. 150 miles from any roads.
