Break ins on the Cedar

Perhaps you read a little too much into my post...Chromerstan sounds great. I just don't know of a system capitalist or otherwise where corruption and greed doesn't exist. I believe you have opined on the destruction created by commercial fisheries. Aren't those a capitalist venture? Either way. Capitalism like all systems need to be measured. Untethered they are as much a cancer on civil society as the knuckledraggers breaking into Corollas.

Never

Generally I would assume I fucked up somehow and try to do better.

Not "evil capitalist" just evil people and never.

You never answered the question on the fishing though.

There is no commercial fishing off the coast of Chromerstan. Sport fishing is "a way of life". Our military protects our waters and consider any foreign vessels fishing in the coast zone war ships and are dealt with accordingly. While our market is unregulated we do have environmental stewardship laws. These are reasonable and rooted in science. Lobby of government officials is also illegal in Chromerstan. So while corruption is a human trait in governance that we try to stamp out it is at the very least illegal. Unlike inferior countries where it is considered legal and "how things get done". The chrome does flock to Chromerstan. Guides are also forbidden unless in highly limited numbers on their own rivers of residence. This was a compromise with the ministry of tourism. Chromerstan is a far from perfect nation but we let common sense and science dictate the few laws we have. Citizens are generally highly self reliant as this attracts them to our way of life. The practice of making scarecrows from thieves while macabre to outsiders sends a firm message to those that would exploit others. We are a peaceful people of individuals. We are swift and precise with our retribution when trod upon.

While our market is unregulated we do have regulations.

While our market is unregulated we do have regulations.

Why is this shocking? You truly believe that an unregulated economic system means a country without laws? Perhaps you would prefer central planning cause that works out really well historically? Dear girl what are you trying to say without saying anything?

"In the spirit of liberty and freedom we of Chromerstan do not involve ourselves in the affairs and struggles of other countries and peoples. We do not attempt to convince those of a life of liberty and personal accountability. We only ask in return that the people of other countries and oppressive regimes grant us that same courtesy. The want and drive for personal liberty is one that cannot be taught to those conditioned to love their oppressor. There is no cure for Stockholm Syndrome as it pertains to the addiction to over active governance. We only wish to be a beacon of what is possible. We cannot make the blind see this and we do not wish to do so. If all the oxen knows is the weight of the plow it's absence comes to them in the form of anxiety and discomfort."

Footnote: The last bit is an analogy comparing people to oxen. I'll let you make your inferences unfettered other than this slight guidance.

I just find it amusing, is it not an oxymoron to say you have an unregulated economic system but you do have laws regulating the economy? Perhaps you like the sound of an unregulated economy but know it would be useless in practice.

Perhaps you're confusing an economic system with systems of governance. So no, not an oxymoron. You realize anarchy is not an economic system right? Laws on environmental stewardship are not economic control. Do environmental laws effect commerce? Yes, they inevitably do but these are not market regulation. In Chromerstan we keep the government out of your business, your home, your church (should you choose to worship as there is no state religion implied or otherwise) and at a size where it is always subjugate to the people.

Or one could attack this another way. To quote those with a line of thinking where they wish government to control everything like a helicopter parent. "How do we know, we've never had real socialism." So how would we know being we haven't had a truly free market. I know it's scary. Just about everything worthwhile is scary. You can break the chains and escape the Church Of The Nine Dots. You're young, escape your conditioning. Become a free and productive agent for you. It is not selfish to want freedom. It is not selfish to pursue that which you deem important. It is not selfish to not want to live as a tax slave to those that do not represent you. You are more than cattle. You are a person born free and should have the agency to manage your own affairs to whatever end.

Wasn't this a post about break-in 's on the Cedar...??

We solved that one. We called the backhoe guy and there was a small dispute between the "hang em high" crowd and the "bury em deep" crowd. It all ended civil and they took a vote. I'm not going to say how it turned out but let's just say there's a new tree planted and the backhoe guy is a few dollars richer.

“The country isn’t half worked out because they that governs it won’t let you touch it. They spend all their blessed time in governing it, and you can’t lift a spade, nor chip a rock, nor look for oil, nor anything like that without all the Government saying — ‘Leave it alone and let us govern.’ Therefore, such as it is, we will let it alone, and go away to some other place where a man isn’t crowded and can come to his own. We are not little men, and there is nothing that we are afraid of except Drink, and we have signed a Contrack on that. Therefore, we are going away to be Kings.”

Yeah, but that rug really ties the room together.

In Chromerstan do you strike first, strike hard, and show no mercy?

Would a lowly sea run cutthroat guide possibly be allowed in?

We gotta hook up for a cold one one of these days and discuss this glorious place.

Nick I've already got a cabinet position for you. Minister of Sport Fishing Health and Outreach. And while I agree the rug really tied the room together it's the Chinaman that may or may not be the point. Further study needed. We hope we don't need to strike in Chromerstan. We will tread if trod upon however we wish for no quarrel with other nations. We are a peaceful people but not a people to be trifled with.
