A couple friends and I wrapped the high lakes season on a small lake at 3,600 feet yesterday. The water was cold and dark but we found bright cutthroat casting size 14 wet flies to swirls and rises. I fished an 8'6" Phillipson bamboo rod, a 3" Farlows reel and an intermediate line.

A size 14 Grouse and Claret wet fly was the ticket.

Tail: Golden pheasant tippet
Body: Claret seals fur dubbing ribbed with gold tinsel
Hackle: Black hen hackle
Wing: Grouse.

Seals fur dubbing gets buggy when it's fished. Here's what my fly looked like after landing a half dozen cutts.
