Next Fly Swap...

#1
Hello all,

I found this forum rught after the last fly swap had been decided (Carp flies). Is this something you do often? I'd love to take part in the next swap. I've never fished for carp with a fly before, so I wouldn't have much in the lines of carp flies...but if you're game for a Bass, Trout, Steelie fly swap...count me in!

Welcome!

GreekGeek, well, with a last name like Williams and not Stephanopolous, you must be in a Fraternity. Am I warm yet???
By all means you should start a swap of your own with focus on bugs you like to tie and swap. We are not trout snobs by any means and I just got Lefty's VHS tape on bass bugs. So, I'm ready....

Welcome!

Sorry Roper...you're ice cold on the Fraternity guess.

Actually, flyfishing is my other hobby...my main one is reading and translating Greek. From Classical Greek, to Koine, to the New Testament and so forth, it tends to be an all season hobby, and I never have to drive far! So now you know why Greek, and it should be apparent why the "geek" part on that tag! I'm by no means a nerd, but you have to be a bit of a geek to get far very far in Ancient Greek.

But bass bugs do sound kind of intresting, simply becase there's a huge variety to choose from. If this idea draws any intrest I'd love to organize a swap.

Any takers???

Welcome!

I used to know it all---but now that I'm older I seem to forget it all.

You had to bring up the subject of rabbits and it made me think of yesterday up on the Skagit. As we(mtlhead and me) were driving by the place up by Marblemont we happened to look to our left and there were rabbits all over the place. Jack Rabbits, little one's,big one's, 95% of the the jack rabbit color and a few different. And they were just running around,no cages. Oh and the fishing sucked also.

Bass are all greek to me

Count me in on the bass bug fly swap....But are we talkin' small or largemouth flies? I tie a mean smallmouth crawfish fly and an outrageous large mouth floating bug.

Also, GreekGeek have you ever translated any of the lost gospels from the original greek (such as the Gospel ot Thomas)? Every copy I buy seems to be translated slightly differently. If so, I would be interested in your take on some key passages that are subject to interpretation...

Mac, Have you ever tied a fly that didn't have bunny strips on it? :rofl

By the way I think your fly name should be hyphenated...:rofl

I'll be tying a YaYa Fly:thumb

Bass are all greek to me

Hey All,

OK, I'll put up a formal post in a day or two after this post has been read by most of the forum to see who wants to tie some up. BTW...I'm not the greatest tyer in the world...but I catch fish with my bugs. More than likely I'll be tying up some super-modified-bad-ass-wooly-buggers (note the hyphens Roper):p Also, I think it would be really fun for everyone to tie up their most outrageous and crazy bass bug...I'd take a picture of each one and I could post them in the forum. Bass will bite on some ridiculous bugs...I'd like to see some! And I think either Large or Smallmouth patterns would be acceptable.

So far we have...

Piscean, no I have never translated any of the lost Gospels...but if you'd like to send me some key passage addresses I could (would love to actually) give you my spin on them...it might be kinda fun. E-mail me at [email protected] (my home e-mail) and we can chat a bit about it.

Welcome!

you must be talking about that little burger joint. I was there yesterday my partner needed something to eat so we stopped by. They'll give you bread right there so you can feed the rabbits. Oh and they're cottontails. OOOOHHHHH the visions I was having in my head yesterday looking at those rabbits, many a fly, many a fly.
By the way, the Sauk sucked too.
