It's been a phenomenol year on the cowlitz, the river has been receiving anywhere from 8 to 12 fish per week. Some day we'll look back at the winter of 2007/2008 being the "good ol' days'...

Been slow, at least according to the gamie ( and the one day I went there, as a personal data point). Went out there last monday and saw a total of 5 fish caught that day... The gamie said it's been pretty much like this for a few weeks now, with only the occasional fish being caught. I not a Cowlitz expert though, so don't take my word for it...

With so many years of intensive hatchery planting, I would have thought they would have fixed the river by now, and fishing would be awesome.

Maybe next year.

Dorylf,

The hatchery plants tons of smolts. They don't control what happens to them once they leave the hatchery tho. In 2004 there were record returns. Last summer and this winter, it's a bust. And so it goes. Fishing, just like real life, ain't certain.
