Spokane River USGS Gauges

When measuring the Spokane River CFS what gauge does one use for the river levels? I see the one at Post Falls currently showing 3930 but that is way upriver from Hangman Creek on the Lower Spokane. The Trent Bridge reading shows 1460 CFS and I am wondering where all the water went from up river? Just wondering when trying to determine the flow what gauges ya'll look at?

The gauges don't all sit at the same level in the rivers. What looks high at one spot might be low in another. It seems weird. But it's true.

There is a significant interplay between the aquifer and the river in the valley. There are reaches that lose water to the aquifer and some that are recharged by water from the acquifer. That's the explanation for the flow differences anyway. I was certain though that there were only gages at Post Falls and the one just upstream from Hangman. Where did you see info for Trent?

Originally saw it lit up on the Washington State map on the USGS site. It is also Displayed in the Washington State Streamflow table for the Spokane River System. Here is the link http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wa/nwis/current/?type=flow

There are two gages on the spokane that are for seasonal high water levels. They dont always show any info just when there is some sort of water event. One is at harvard road, the other at trent.

if you're interested in flows above Sullivan, the post falls gage is the only real time gage. if you're interested in flows below Sullivan, the "at Spokane" gage is best. The Spokane gage includes flows including aquifer discharge to the river, though you will pick up about 300 CFS downstream of the Spokane gage by Plese Flats. post falls flows, minus about 250 CFS, are a good estimate of flows at Barker, as I recall.
