Turks Tarantula For Steelhead?

Has anyone used a TT as a skating fly for steel head? It works well as an all purpose fly for trout and at the end of a drift seems to produce a noticeable wake if the tension is light enough. Any other suggestions for a simple to tie waking fly?

I don't see why it wouldn't work, although I've never tried one. A plain 'ol muddler minnow is a great skater, as is a riffle hitched wet fly. In faster, choppier water the riffle hitched streamer can be harder to see...

I almost always use an orange Turcks Tarantula for steelhead. I once hooked and landed two wild fish in 20 minutes on the Klickitat on #6 TT.

Leland.
And a fine day that was. Remember that frisky steelie that ran about 50 yards up and across river after he felt the hook?
