Lone Lake (Whidbey Island) Carp!

#16
My method is to hunker down, remain quiet and bait the area. Then cast to feeding fish. Easier said than done!

Dude I would so love to catch a carp! Sounds like a hoot to me. Maybe a balanced grass fly tied on a jig hook to hang under an indi? I wonder if carp hits are subtle bobber twitches...

Study on growth rates related to stocking densities? Not yet. Lone is stocked at half the level of fish/acre that are put in the put and take lakes. Somewhere around 35 to 40 an acre each year. Catch rate averaged 1.4 fish/hour, and the fish all looked healthy in the spring (except for the spawners). I think most of the summer morts were resorbing spawners or triploids. Heat is hard on them. Bigger fish just do not seem to be carrying over.

As for good "fly" to use, I've posted a photo. We've been adding basil to the mix with good results lately.

Nick if you are interested let me or really, let Shaker Jake know, and we'll kill carp for the good of the lake!
