You can fish priest river below the dam, there are a few fish but the water is warm by then so fish early morning and later evening. Or fish the main lake for big lake trout!

Respool your 8 weight with leadcore line, attach a swivel, mono, banana weight, flasher, mono, and a big ole piece of flashy hardware of your choosing. Troll the rocky drop offs for Macks. Dirty, cheap and effective. Love Priest

Also if you have a boat and access to gas/money, run your boat up to upper priest lake, there are some nice creeks up there if they are still open to fishing. Also there are bears there for sure so be smart.

Are they something that could be hiked into?

I believe so. You would have to drive up to the top of the lake though, I will try and find a map. It's been awhile since I've been up there.

1. Copy these coordinates: 48.801493,-116.918396

2. Paste them in Google maps search bar.

That is the river I've talking about. Also there looks to be a trail to get up there but it's pretty remote. Also this is bear country for sure but I've never had a problem.

Eric, depending on where you will be camping, east or west side makes a big difference. Both coordinates given above put you in good locations for either spot. The second puts you into bigger water and indeed much better access. You can also fish the West Branch of the Priest River which is another option. All streams have fairly small fish. Kalispell does have fish, but you should expect very small water. Lots of small streams on either side of the Lake. If you are on the East side, drive up the road and you will find water along it. West side you will have to hit the maps but there are a few spots to fish.
