I have long been a fan of the "Spruce Fly" pattern for Cutthroats. The Holo-Spruce is a variation of that pattern.

Jack, how do you make the peacock herl thorax so full? Do you build up the body underneath it with something?

Hi Richard,
That Holo-Spruce is a Mustad 9672 Size #10 so it is not a large fly. The thorax is four peacock herls tied in at the tips along with a very fine piece of wire and twisted to form a rope. There is no body or build up under the thorax - just a single layer thread base.
