If you've never fished these type of flies before, understand that fish will turn them into a tangled mess. Bring along a comb or a small pet brush; lay the fly on a flat surface (your leg can serve, in a pinch) take a few strokes and you'll have the fly in fishable, if not pristine shape, in a flash.

Tied them with Congo Hair, from Flytyer's Dungeon; polypropylene, like EP Fibers, at about 1/3 the cost (although dealing with the Dungeonmaster sometimes makes me wonder if it's worth it :p ). Stuff sheds water and, like you said, makes them pretty easy to cast.
