mine came today, nice ties everyone. Whats the word on the funky stinger hooks? does it make the fly ride differently, or is it to protect the fly from the fishy teeth?
Pat, if you're talking about mine, it's the traditional way of rigging an intruder. Change out the hook whenever you want, and for whatever size is appropriate. More importantly, when you hook up (as if...) the fly separates and slides up the leader, thereby limiting damage to the fly.
Cool. It seems like it would swim right side up even on patterns without the weighted eyes. And it means I can stop buying as much stinger wire. Did you just cut the reverse loop off of a Senyos style shank or is it some other brand? Looks like I could also make the hook not ride way back on longer bodied patterns. Dammit now the stinger flies I've been tying the past few weeks are totally inferior, hat decorations I tell yah! I totally dig it.
Pat, the flies were all tied on partridge waddington shanks that I cut into two parts with wire cutters.
