Have you considered a 3 weight. I have owned both and prefer the 3 weight for general trout fishing you describe. Just my $0.02.

 

I only cast the hydrogen one time, George Cook was very persuasive as I was not interested (he was at Reds Rendezvous). I was very impressed. The 2 wt. in particular fished much bigger than I expected.

 

I have a 2 and 3 hydrogen. I also think the 4 is a little much for what you describe. The 3 will throw the streamers you describe, but the 2 is much nicer for soft hackles and can handle surprisingly bigger payload as well.
Personally I like the Rio Switch Line Chucker on mine.

 

As mentioned above the 3wt will be perfect for what you want to throw. Not sure why they made trout spey confusing but they did. A 2wt is a 4wt in single rod terms, 3wt a 5wt and 4wt a 6wt etc.... my Hydrogen troutspey 3wt handles big fish with ease and chucks pretty decent size streamers.

 

I use the 4 weight for throwing 2 medium streamers in windy conditions and on large rivers.

 

I have an Echo TR 12 ft 4 wt that is brand new and never fished. Bought on an impulse buy, as I have three other trout speys and the Echo gets no love at all. Pls lmk if interested.

 

I have an Echo 10’8” Glass 4wt.

I'll agree on this for sure. I've casted or owned 2-4wt and the 2 & 3's are epic and fight fish in a fun way but I'm with a 11'6" 4wt now and I love it because I can take it to huge rivers and make long casts and also fish smaller water too. It's the perfect trout Spey if you could only have 1 weight. I agree with those about though regarding the lack in performing with small flies or soft hackles.
