Congratulations, Lance - We also found extraordinarily large roosters at East Cape Baja during the week of May 10th this year. However, they were few and far between, and virtually impossible to get into from the beach. So, kudos to you for that. We fished mullet patterns in shallow water from a panga, which enabled us to be mobile and search out far- ranging inshore areas for short bursts of activity. Largest was 60#, caught on a 12 wt., 20 lb. tippet. Unfortunately, fish took the fly deep into the gills and after a 1 hr. battle, wasn't able to be revived, being the first and hopefully last rooster that we'll kill. Didn't have any IGFA certified scale, so didn't investigate record possibility.

For those reading this that aren't familiar with roosters on the fly, Lance's beach caught rooster is obviously in a special category of its own, given the extreme difficulty of hooking and landing a rooster of that size from the beach.

BTW, Lance - I previously resided in Port Angeles for 20 yrs, 1976-1996, and guided briefly out of Thunderbird Boathouse on Ediz Hook. I'm not very computer savvy, but I'll try to attach a photo of the rooster with this post ( my grandkids could do it for me in an instance if they were available)

Looks like our boy Lance (Pez Gallo) has got a new pending world record roosterfish to his credit...

... after hitting Peterson's Mona-Lisa fly, and qualifies for the men's 6 kg (12 lb) tippet world record.
Wow... Mona-Lisa fly!!
Do you need to look like Mona-Lisa to be able to fish the Mona-Lisa fly effectively?! LOL
Awesome fish! Congratulations!! Pez Gallo : )

What a beast! There should be extra credit for catching a record from shore on fly, just sayin'.....especially something as difficult as a roosterfish record......at least some free pizzas and a lifetime supply of Tres Generaciones.

Congratulations Lance. That is something to be proud of!

Bob,
Sounds like you got into some good action this year. A 60lb roosterfish is an amazing catch.
While I reside in Mexico year round, my USA mailing address is in PA hence the mention by igfa. Though I haven't been there for a few years now I look forward to wetting a line on the Olympic Peninsula again soon. If you were there in the mid-seventies I bet you saw some good fishing both fresh and salt!
