I'm sure both are up to the task.

I used an XP 890 up there fishing for pinks - they put a very solid bend in the rod and it worked great. I'd bring both so you have a backup, just in case. I had a custom tube made so that I could bring two 4-piece rods in the same tube. PM me if you want details.

8wt perfect. white & black maribou muddlers will be hammered by Big bows and dollies and you will have a bent 8wt :) if you can remember, i'd like to know how you do on the silvers. I had a tough time hooking them on flies on the upper kenai, if that's where ur goin. Hooked 2, my first day out and 1 of them broke the hook. it was a hot fish but maybe i struck a rock on a backcast before i hooked it. never hooked another silver for 2 1/2 months of fishing and i was fishing 3 days a week sometimes 4. unbelieveable. I went into my log cabin for winter and hung up my vest and thought man, how could this be. I tried everything.

Definitely bring both if you can. I used to carry my 4 piece sages on the plane with me sticking out the top of my backpack and no one ever said a word about it. I've broke rods with no backups and it sure does ruin a fishing trip.
