WDFW announces additional meetings on management
of salmon, steelhead fishing guide industry


OLYMPIA - The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has scheduled additional public meetings on management of the state's salmon and steelhead fishing guide industry.

In addition to previously scheduled meetings in Forks and in Lyle, the department has scheduled four more meetings to provide the public with more opportunities to participate.

All meetings are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. and include the following dates and locations:

  • Forks: Oct. 25, Rainforest Arts Center, 35 N. Forks Ave., Forks.
  • Lyle: Nov. 8, Lyle Activities Center, Highway 14 and Third Street, Lyle.
  • Ridgefield: Nov. 9, WDFW Region 5 office, 5525 S. 11th St., Ridgefield.
  • Mill Creek: Nov. 13, WDFW Region 4 office,16018 Mill Creek Blvd., Mill Creek.
  • East Wenatchee: Nov. 20, Douglas County PUD Offices, Main Auditorium, 1151 Valley Mall Pkwy, East Wenatchee.
  • Clarkston: Nov. 21, Walla Walla Community College in the multi-purpose room, 1470 Bridge St., Clarkston.

I seem to remember reading about overcrowding and guides on the Grand Ronde and maybe the Methow on this forum a few years back. Which river(s) is/are next? I think the time has come to get ahead of the curve for the future instead of playing catch up again. Humans/anglers seems to be multiplying faster than wild steelhead.

I guess you might be right. I mean, we are dealing with the government. I guess they could make it worse. :eek:
It's a very tough issue. I wish the rivers could sustain tons of anglers and guides but they can't both the fish and the quality of the experience are suffering.
I don't think any one person has all the answers. We need to work together on this. My views are as flawed as anyone. Again i think a commitee for each river needs to be established.

One meeting and a state wide policy ain't gonna cut it.
