So I received the fly line I purchasedfrom Allen. The big surprise was there was 2 more lines with it.

I cannot say enought about the customer service. WOW

Now the real question. Rated up against other fly lines like RIO or SA how do they rate? My line I purchased is WF6F. I got 2 yellows and the 2 tone line.

Being a rookie I am not sure how a line should feel but I am working on my casting. I have a long way to go. I have had 2 lessons from Vern Jeremica and 2 forum members, thanks guys for not laughing at me.

Thanks,

Gary

I don't think they compare to lines at 4x the price point like say, an Airflo 40+, but that's not what they're out to do. They're a great line to get you started, or to fill up your backup reel. I've ordered a few to give to friends to get started with, and they work great for that. Just a good way to not spend $50+ on a line, and gets you fishing on the cheap.

I have been told that there are only four places on the planet that makes fly lines. If that is true then the Allen fly lines come from one of them. I'm speculating, of course, maybe give Justin a call. His web page has his contact information. I have his lines in 3, 4, 5 and 6wt. I fished the 4wt on one of my trout rods all day long on my recent fishing trip. I have a lot more expensive lines and still fish them. The Allen lines will cast well, shoot well, float high and connect your fish to you.

Gary,

You can get WAY to cerebral in this game!! Today the lowest priced bargain basement gear is infinately better than what was available 30 years ago.

Take what you have and just go out and use it!!

Forty plus years ago I started out with a Pfleugar reel loaded with Scientific Angler Supreme line. I still have the set-up, though the line is a bit frayed and tired, and I can cast it just as well today as a $70 RIO line. Well not quite as well but more than exceptable for a worn line that is 40 years old with cracks and stiffened with age.

Newer and better will NOT replace technique and skill. You can have the best line or rod money will buy but without the technique and skill it means nothing. Learn to present good casts from your feet to 60 feet with various types of flies. Nymphs, streamers, soft hackles and dries all reguire a bit of difference in presentation. Presentation is the key! The line and the rod are just a part of what you are doing. The technique in your casting is what is important. Yes there are rods and lines that are technique specific. But there are many rods and lines that will lend themselves to fish in assorted ways and methods. From your posts I think you have a pretty neutral set up and can explore all the facets with what you have. The set up may not be the ideal for any particular situation but should be more than workable and flexible in almost all situations.

Just go fish and quit thinking so much.

Wet Line, That is exactly what I am going to do right after work tomorrow. If anyone wants to go let me know. I get off around 1430. Live in the Sammamish area but work in Seattle. Have been thinking about looking over the bank of the duwamish. See what is swimming.

I have two Allen WF6F lines that are no longer being used, sold my 6wt's so if anyone wants them I'd send them to free of charge (couple bucks for shipping though) only if you intend on using them, if your looking for resale then don't take them, just trying to pass on a deal for someone to use. Or trade some tying stuff maybe flashabou or whatever you don't use anymore.

Jim,

So right you are about casting 60' or more while fishing moving water. It is generally a waste of time for most situations. Focus on the close water right!!! A line laying across a couple of seams and different current flows is a waste of time in most situations. That is a good point you brought up through the back door. But then you are kind of a back door kind of guy!! Bye the bye I have a prety good black bear located. Do you want to go kick it in the butt! I think it is a bit bigger than the one we ran across at the feeder In the Hancock property!
