I've got a bored brother in law in town for Thanksgiving. We had the opportunity to hang out today and I took him to Avid Angler. Well, the boredom got the better of the both of us. I walked out with a new Sage Vantage 5wt and he's trying out a VT2. :beer2:

Now, we have the problem of figuring out where the heck to fish in November with a couple of trout rods. D'oh.

So, I know the Yak is probably the only water worth chucking at in terms of trout and what a 5wt can handle, but has anyone been up the middle fork road lately? Is it completely snowed over and inaccessible? I'd love to hit the MF if it's accessible rather than drive 2 hours out to the yak.

Anyhow. long shot. but, drop me a note if you've been up and know the conditions or have some other bright ideas for a couple of not so bright guys.

Jesse,
My suggestion is still to make the 90 or so minute drive to Cle Elum and fish the upper portion of the Yak. I think the flows are probably more manageable, and your chances of catching fish are greater. Plus, weather permitting, the drive that way can be beautiful. I know what you're saying, however, about wanting to keep it closer to home. But this time of year can be kind of iffy, making some kind of travel necessary. Thanks again for coming into the shop, and wherever you guys end up, I hope you "stick some fish!!" Take care - JP

Just thought i'd post a recap of the day. We headed out to the MF near Mt Si and had a good time casting streamers by the big red bridge. My brother in law hooked into a nice little fish on his second cast! What a guy, since this was his first time out on a fly rod!

I finally shed the skunk and got a nice 8 incher towards the end of the day. Not too bad for a blown river. Any day fishing, is a great day. So happy to be living in the northwest.

Tomorrow we're waking up at the butt crack of dawn to hit the yakima. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
