I'm interested in learning to tie some classic wet flies and I was wondering if there's a good book out there on the subject that any of you would recommend. I'm getting married next year and I want to use flies for my groomsmen's bootineers. I'm thinking I'll probably need to take a class or otherwise find some in-person instruction, but a book would help get me going until I'm ready to pony up the cash for "real" feather. Thanks in advance.

Plenty of books, but with You Tube I would start there. I started with books in 1980 which is the hard way.

Also take a beginners lesson at local fly shop if available.

For tying speys flies these two books are great. They have good sections on materials selection (which is very important) and step by step instructions for several patterns to show the techniques.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been tinkering around with the basics so far, with mixed results. I've made about half a dozen trips to Patrick's in the last few weeks and Anren (forgive my spelling) has been a great help. I'd still like to find a reference guide, but they're surprisingly expensive. If anyone here has an old one laying around that they'd be willing to sell, let me know.

Great info on places to get started, classicflytying.com has a section dedicated to old wets and streamers and is a good place to learn the skills and techniques you'll need. Good luck.
