Going up later this week to fish Peter hope, Roche and other lakes in the Merritt and Kamloops area. I'm assuming most of the lakes have had a chance to go thru turnover by now. Anyone have some fishing reports.

Did you see @LCnSac's report? Pretty sure he's not going to release the name of the first lake but he does mention the second lake. I fish the area you're headed to. Have you been to Tunkwa or the one right below it?

I spoke with the owners of the lodge where I stay (Milehighresort.com) and the ice came off their lake only last week. It is at 5,000 feet, quite a grade uphill from Kamloops or Merritt and off the freeway towards Logan Lake (Logan Lake has some very nice fish, just a real urban setting).

Good luck, have fun, let us know how you do. Headed up June 4th. Probably miss a lot of midge hatches.

So where is this report from LCnSac located? I looked at the threads here and do not see it.

I'm heading east of Merritt for a couple days this coming weekend. Wondering if he covered anything interesting to that area.

Just got back from Tunkwa lake, fished for two days before the wind came up and blew me off. First day got a few on a halfback and finally stopped to use a indicator. A green chironomid was the ticket for the first day. Biggest fish was 20", average about 14. Water temp 59 to 60 degrees. Second day the fish would not touch my "hot" flies. Moved to a new area and threw out a size 14 black snow cone with a red rib, my new hot fly. The fish were a little smaller then the day before. The fish up there just jump all the time, not just on the end of your line, next to the boat, all over all the time. They get 2 or 3 feet up in the air. Not sure if they are feeding or just having fun, maybe someone smarter then me knows. The wind came up and ended my first trip to Tunkwa but not last. Good luck up there.

Wind on Tunkwa? I think that might be a first! Glad you had some luck, try the lake right below Tunkwa, it is a bit more sheltered from the "W".

Leighton is the lake beside Tunkwa (Tunkwa has massive bombers in August!)

I am headed to Roche on Sunday for a week, pretty stoked.

Here's some very recent information from a local board (long weekend):

As expected the lake was busy but everyone found a spot to drop their chronies and everyone seemed to be having pretty good luck. Both Saturday and Sunday had about 50 boats from monster bay to the entrance of Carls Flats with small island surrounded. Landed about 25 fish per day and the most successful patterns was black/red rib in size 16 in 17-20 ft of water. Brown/copper rib and my chartreuse ASB tied by the Fly Guys also enjoyed success. Fish were in excellent shape, lots in the 2-3 lb range with the largest maybe 5lbs. Downside was a little stumble in the boat caused my sage one to snap and my brother broke his Thomas & Thomas while bringing in a fish. The conservation officers were on the lake either Friday or Saturday but didn't get to us but they also set up a road block at the park boundary on Sunday and checked everyone on the way out for fishing licences and retained fish. Talking to the CO he mentioned that they nailed a number of people with no licence, barbed hooks and the odd beverage violation.

Were the larger fish FVs? All Pennask

We have several strains of rainbows in BC lakes:
https://flyguys.net/fishing-informa...ing/rainbow-trout-strains-of-british-Columbia

Pennask are the best ones as they are stocked as "triploids" - sterile fish that grow very large.

Water temps? 58 - 60 F

Best chronies are: black with red rib / chromie with red rib (scud hook) / anti-static with black rib / bright green with brown rib.

My friend's dad use to manage the resort at Tunkwa many years ago.
I was told Tunkwa means "Lake of the Wind" in the native language.
Odd that I've never noticed any wind or rain or snow or hail or blistering sun up there in BC. Seriously though, in ten years of fishing around the Logan Lake area, I've never wet a line in Lake of the Wind, I mean, Tunkwa.

Just got back from my trip. Had a great time and the fishing was good at Peter Hope. Stayed there Thurs to Sun. Weather was very nice. Initially trolled a small leech pattern and did pretty good then switched over to chronomids with fair success. Others there did better on chronomids. I did a throat sample on one of the fish I kept and was amazed at how small the chronomids are this time of year up there (size 16-20). By Sunday I was getting more dialed in with Chrono fishing and landed the big one of the trip on a size 14 brown Chrono in 15 feet of water.

Just got back from a guiding stint in the Kamloops region as well as another forum's spring fishout. Logan Lake right in town is fishing well with chronies popping and if you time it right, size 10 callibaetis. The water is heating up and the fish are retreating to deeper water, 20-25'. Productive flies for us were Coppertops #12 and 10, Guns n' Roses #16 and 14, Smoke II in 14's and 12's, Black Mamba's in size 12 and few others that landed their share! Was lucky that I know the backroads as some of the lakes were not accessible due to bridge blowouts but there are always alternative ways to get to where you're going!

Kmac, Did you fish Plateau Lake at all? I love fishing that thing, but haven't been for a long time. I might be a bit early for that one.
No. Did not fish Plateau. Spent my time focused on fishing Peter Hope as I'm trying get better with chironomid fishing. I think next time I'll fish some of the nearby lakes such as Plateau, Glimpse and Blue lake.
