Curious to hear what rod people use and why in their search for SRCs, rezzies, and migratory coho...I'm in the market for a new one.

Looking for a 6wt, 9' 6", tip flex...but totally open to suggestions.

I use a 6wt, 9 ft Echo 2 Saltwater rod. They sell them at Avid Angler. You get 2 tips, with different casting characteristics, and if the rod gets lost or broken, you're not out that much money compared to Winston or Orvis.
Plus how far do you really need to cast for SRC with minnows or poppers?

I use a 9'6" Z-Axis with the fighting butt. Plenty of power and it does double (or triple) duty for me as a nice lake rod for streamers, etc. and handles a nymph/lead/indicator set-up with ease. I pair with a Rio Outbound when I'm on the beach.

I use a few but mostly a Redington CPS 9'6" with butt and an Outbound line or a 5 wt. Z-Axis switch rod with an Scandi head for overhead casting. Sometimes I put the Outbound on the switch depending on how much casting I really want to do.

My favorite is a Sage 696RPL overlined with a WF7 or 40 plus 7 depending on the conditions, it is a pretty fast rod with serious back one should a rezzie take an interest in my offering. I will also use a TFO6wt with that 40+, that is a serius rocket launcher.

I use an Orvis T3 9' 5wt tip flex with an Orvis large arbor Battenkill reel loaded with Rio 5 wt lines for SRC & resident coho. When I'm targeting salmon I switch to a St Croix 9' 8wt med rod with a Ross large arbor reel loaded with a Rio Multi-tip line. I take the same setups to the rivers too. I would like to get a faster action 8wt but haven't come to terms with spending the money yet.

SRC: 10' G.Loomis 6wt GLX. That's right, ten feet. I put the fly wherever I want with that gun. My theory is when on the beach or the lake, be prepared to put it wherever the fish are. If I had Rajeff for a last name I might use a shorter rod (and maybe a 5wt too), but whatever. It does the business for me. Line is a tip sink Rio Outbound.

Salmon: 9'6" Sage 8wt VT2. I still have a love/hate relationship with this rod. I have more trouble getting consistent results with this rod than any other. When it's right, it's really good. Sometimes it's not so good and I can't figure out why. It's either trying to make me a better caster or laughing at me. Switched from a Rio Versatip to a Rio Outbound and liked it much more; longer distance with greater ease.

I have a few different setups that I use, depending on the situation. When going after silvers I've been fishing my Z 7100 almost exclusively lately. Matched with a Nautilus FW 7 and a 40+ line it gets the job done nicely.

I also have a TICRX 9' 6 wt that I couple with an Orvis BK LA and a 40+ 7 wt.

Recently I had Tyler Speir, a forum member, build me a 9' 5 wt that I use strictly on the beaches for SRC/rezzies. Its the perfect rod for those smaller fish on fairly calm days. If its windy I step it up to the 6 wt.

Options are pretty much limitless. Just about anything you have on hand can do the job in a pinch.

I use a Redington CPS 9664S 9'6" 6 wt for rezzie and returning coho uplined with a 7 wt Airflo 40+ fast intermediate line. A good salty 6 will easily handle most anything you hook up off the beach. Since most of the rezzies are 3-5 lbs when things open up in MA's 9 and 10 in July; an 8 is overkill in my opinion.
I like to break out the 8 wt when the chum lords show up.
I don't fish SRC's much in the salt anymore, but if I did I go with a fast action 9' 5 wt. A 6 would work as well, but the 5 wt will let them show off their stuff.

Lots of good choices out their regardless of your budget. Good luck in your search.

My main beach rod is a Dancraft FT 690-4. Awesome power and feel, as long as you don't mind building your own. I much prefer it over the xi2 I picked up last year on close-out. I also have a TFO teeny 690-4 that I should really unload in the classifieds.
