So it finally happened. After 9 months and 28 long hours of labor my first son, Cedar, came into the world. Weighing in at 7.4 lbs, he might not seem that big, but after the long crazy painful hours my wife took to get him here, there is no doubt that there is no bigger catch.

I hope to instill as much of the outdoor enthusiasm and love for fly fishing that I can.

Here's to a fishing partner for life :beer2:

although I think it's going to be a while before I see the water again, and will likely not get to spend the frequency of water time I enjoyed this last winter and summer.

Matthew my friend, congratulations on the safe arrival of Cedar. Best to you, the misses and the grom. I can just picture the proud smile on your face right now and that is a damn good thing!

Hey Matthew,

Congrats brother!! Hope the misses and baby are doing ok, and you are keeping your head above water! I am here for you man, if you need a sounding board or any advice about new fatherhood, good and bad. 8-9 weeks is key, it gets so much better after that, trust me!

Great looking boy, Congrats again!

Wow, so cool. Your first son. Way to go, man.

Let your child determine if fishing is for him.

My son hated being in the drift boat as a toddler.

Then at around age 6 he showed more interest.

Now at age 9 he loves fishing for trout out of the drift boat with conventional gear, but has not graduated to casting a fly rod.

Congrats. Mine is almost 2 1/2 now and has been out on the water with me a few times. I hope to get a rod in her hand in a couple more years. Make your son a fly reel mobile for his crib, never too early to get him familiar with the tackle. : )

Here's mine handling a rod and reel when she was about 1yr old.

Thanks guys! It's amazing something so small can take two adults all their time and energy to attend to. One of these days I'll have to grab a rod just so he can feel some cork! I have wrestled with the thought that he might not ever take to fishing, so I have tried to be at peace with that, just in case. But considering how much we'll be outside and around water, and how much I love to fish, I will be surprised if he doesn't take to it eventually!

That would be weird if he didn't take to it. But I was over 21 before I took my first shot at fishing. My Dad didn't fish and neither did my Gramps.

So I hope your first born takes to it. Congrats.
