The Wenatchee club has held an annual opening day outing on Blue Lake since it's rehab about five or six years ago. We have seen a steady decline in fish quality for the past three years. Not so much in numbers, but in size of fish. Fish that should have been 18 to 19 inches were in the 14 to 15 range with lots of 10 to 12 inch fish. Perhaps overstocking for the amount of feed or just the hard previous winter. It is usually a chironomid show for the opener although buggers will work. White buggers work well. As far as the shiners, the rehab and wiers were supposed to take care of that. I have not observed any. It is a great lake with great scenery and a diverse topography. Early it is almost like three separate lakes which it actually is until it is filled to capacity. The far south piece, which is spring fed, will often be landlocked except for a small stream channel. We will be there again this April for the opener minus some who are unhappy with the fish quality of last year. Stop in and chat, someone of the group will be happy to share what has been working. We wil be at the South end of the lake.
