First check the regs. Some waters mandate C&R (either just the nates or both, and single barbless hooks). So that narrows it done nicely for you in those places.
Other times, folks choose to release nates to help promite the recovery of the wild\native fish.
Othertimes folks c&r just because they like to catch fish but not eat them.
If it's not required by the regs, it's really a personal choice. 99% of the guys I know who understande the native\wild steelhead issue will never keep a wild\native fish wether legal or not.
