Recently I've been making trips up to the Chilliwack to try and connect with a couple spring steelhead to no avail. Curious to see if anyone else has any experience or stories to share.

Just went up there for the first time on Saturday. It was pretty crowded but with a little bit of hiking I was able to find some water for myself. People up there are exceedingly nice, seemed like every jogger on the trail stopped to say hi or give me some piece of advice. As far as the fishing, I had one quick grab that was most likely a resident trout that quickly popped off. I didn't see a single fish caught from the gear guys either. Have a couple more spots I want to try next time. If you're interested in carpooling up there send me a PM.

I'm in a similar boat, I know nothing about fishing up there aside from what I've read. But it's been on my list of fishing things to do for a while now and it's high time I make it happen.

Which is a long way of offering carpool/gas-money company to either of you if our schedules work out. We can all be clueless together.

Funny. The Vedder is widely known across Canada for its combat fishing atmosphere, though to be fair that mostly occurs during salmon season.
In the winter the most common offense is fence posting but if you don't mind walking around them there is still plenty of water to fish.
The biggest problem is the heavy pressure on very few fish. The annual Boxing Day derby catches 250-300 fishermen and 6-12 fish and even mid-week you will see 3-15 cars at each pullout.
The river is hatchery enhanced and all hatchery fish come from unclipped parents. As a result there are no "hatch brats", and I haven't noticed any difference in fight between clipped and unclipped fish.

After talking to a few guys up there last week most guys don't hit the rivers after the license renewal so the pressure has gone way down. Kinda last minute but I'm headed up tomorrow if anyone would like to join.

I am in Vancouver doing a practical at BCIT, for gas fitting.

I'm choosing to go to the Skagit instead of the Vedder this coming weekend. I will catch the same amount of fish, but the company will be undefinably better!
