Well today while I was chumming I hooked on a nice sized one, brought him to hand and was realed. The funny thing is, it was a rod I build out of a St. Croix SCIV blank, well the rod basicly exploded in the tip section. Makes me pretty mad, I am trying to get a hold of St. Croix, hoping the get a new blank. Has anyone ever had problems with sending back broken rods to St. Croix. Well thanks for your time.

You should get a new blank no questions asked, my buddy broke one last summer taking it out of a canoe, he was taken care of, even though it was his fault.

chummimg, had a 5wt that broke off about 1foot from the tip. rod was handed down to me and about 20years old so i didn't pursue any repair from st croix. not much help, just passed the info

Well thanks, I am hoping I will get one no questions asked. This was actually only my thrid time using it. I took it to the Snoq. to basicly see how it felt, didn't catch anything. Then took it chumming on weds. and caught two, it was a really slow day. Then today, I hooked up on two, both got away really early, then the third I hooked up on was the one that exploded the rod. He was a nice size fish, he was released with out any harm, well to him at least, my rod was harmed pretty bad. I just can't believe it did that, I would understand if it was old, but third fish on ever. I wasn't even muscling him in or anything, oh well I guess. But thanks for the input.

Ahhh...you guys are discovering why no longer fish graphite rods...but St Croix will (like any good rod company) do what they can to keep you as a customer. You could probably even send in your 20yr old rod and they might evn offer you something comparable at cost...never hurts to try.

I have a St. croix 7 wt that I sometimes fish salmon with because it is slightyl longer than my Sage 8 wt.. Long story short, I had a similar experience as you with a big salmon on the Kenai R. in alaska. Sent it back, and had it back repaired in under two weeks. This was just this fall. You will have no problem getting a new blank.

Every time I go chumming I use A 50.00 cheap 5/6 graphite rod. Dosent have good taper on the lower end and is strong. Dosent need to cast more them 30 or 40 feet.

ON any given weekend these chum brake at least a couple fly rods in western wa. seems that most rod makers all do a great job of replacing their products fault or no fault if only the wader manifactures did the same :MAD Up north we broke rods on chums all the time I've seen em break on guys horsing fish little ladys nursing them but mostly it happens in close. Hey greyghost in your post last week you said you where in ak.did you try fishing for chums with dry,s up there? Undeniably the wildest time I've ever had.
