Floated Dry Ck. to St. Regis, beautiful day, we had the river to ourselves, warm, little to no wind. Midge hatch most of the day, bigtime BWO hatch about 3PM. We didn't move a fish all day. Still better than workin'.

Wanting to avoid the 6,000,000 people hammering the Bitterroot right now, I floated Clark Fork for 6 hrs on Saturday (Kelly Island to the take-out past Kona - I never remember the name but it is the one with the burned out bridge). Started out pretty decent with a BWO hatch and had some success with emerger pattern right off the bat but got sloooooow after that. Couple fish on streamers but nothing to write home about and despite our best efforts, zero luck on dries or nymphs after the first 30 minutes. You just never know - that is a finicky river! Maybe I should have sucked it up and made it 6,000,001 on the Bitterroot, but I don't regret spending a beautiful day on the river.

I managed to drive ovr and fish the "root this weekend with the other 6 million people that were there. We did pick some up with the skwala both on saturday as sunday. Wasn't easy, and took a very heads up amount of looking down river to see if they were looking up and listening for a take. Once we located a fish, we almost always got them to eat, but it wasn't like we were banging down any numbers. fun to fish the foam!!!

That takeout below Kona is called Harpers. Watch out if you access it from the Mullan rd. side because the lower half of the launch is sand/rocks. Buried a buddy's truck there last fall. We fished near Alberton yesterday and got about half a dozen fish on skwallas, plus one on a nymph. Only shared the river with one other boat, but battled upstream winds all day. Beautiful river.

That's right - Harpers Bridge. The take-out is still bad on the Mullan Rd side (basically a sandpit), but apparently the state bought the land last year and they are going to fix it up to improve the facilities and access there.

A buddy and I fished it both Saturday and Sunday and were absolutly bitch-slapped by the CF both day's. Two fish to hand between the two of us in two days of fishing; absolutely brutal. To add insult to injury, I've never seen as many sqwalla's on a river as there were below St. Regis Saturday afternoon; not to mention, midge all weekend, sporadic blue wing's and March Brown's. Intrestingly only saw a very small handfull of fish rise all weekend.

Simons, you are killing me.
Watch out for the take out on the South side. It is covered in nails from kids burning pallets, used condoms, random garbage, and tweakers.. Great place for a flat tire. I get a few there a year.
