Hey guys! I'm a senior at Indiana University working on a fishing startup in a business competition at my school. I believe consolidated information about captains/guides can help fishers of all experience levels make better decisions when/if they want a captain/guide so that great fishing experiences shouldn't have to happen by chance. I apologize if the last question was not clear. I am a student in a business competition at my school performing research that will become a component of our presentation. It was suggested to teams competing in the competition that we collect emails from those who interested, so that we can keep people updated on our progress if the website is helpful and becomes a business in the future. Once you're out on the water there are certainly those situations where you cannot predict when and where the fish are biting, how conditions affect this etc, and that mystery/chance is part of the reason we fish to begin with. What I meant to suggest by the tagline: "great fishing experiences shouldn't have to happen by chance" is that detailed information can help anglers wanting to fish with a guide make a more informed, confident selection so they can maximize the chance they have a great time on the water.

Not to sound discouraging, but I see this working only for the folks that aren't regular fisherpeople.

Beginners, folks that fish once or twice a year and hire a guide every time, and folks seeking lessons.

I expect that most of the experienced people who fish regularly will turn their nose up to the idea of a computer algorithm choosing a guide for them. Even if it were a free service.

I most certainly would prefer to do the research myself when spending the money that it takes for a day of guided fishing, especially on the fly.

Well...part of it helps solve George's degree requirements. Not every student project has to be ground breaking, theory busting work. He's probably collecting some data, doing some analysis and trying to interpret what it all means. After he finishes the project, he'll realize his mistakes that hopefully he'll learn from them and won't make again when he finds employment.
