Wiese’s Bob Hopper 2.0

A quick and easy pattern. Walter makes his living tying/guiding in/around Yellowstone, some serious hopper country and this one has been well received by a few trout in my part of the state. I don’t have the fancy cutter to shape the body, but I did figure out that a toenail clipper does a neat job tapering the back end of the foam, so no more ragged scissor cuts. H+F Hopper

Added a body hackle and shoulder for no specific reason, since the original floated just fine. These are a good bit more involved than the Wiese Bob Hopper 2.0, but they’re also fun to tie and a Carnage body October Caddis version is probably my favorite fly for east-side westslopes.

Made a change to Charlie Craven’s SBS of Danny Lane’s design, incorporating the mono core I use for Carnage style flies as opposed to the old building it on a needle technique; provides a much more stable body.

Svenddiesel’s Elk Hair Hopper (variation)

A few changes to the original; again, incorporated the mono core I use for Carnage style flies as opposed to the old building it on a needle technique for a much more stable body. Although the hen shoulder isn’t really visible, it keeps the pheasant rump from compressing around the body when the bullethead is tied down.

Streaking Caddis (Carnage variation)

Saw a Rogue-bodied version somewhere (can’t find it now) on the interweb; since I’ve traded in a needle for the mono core, I decided to give this one a shot. The shoulder was an impulse; probably unnecessary although it didn’t really add any complexity.
