Sunday I got out to what has become one of my favorite creeks here in NC. I haven't seen many, but this one is one of those places you like to keep to yourself. It used to be used as a local WW kayak stream, but loss of access effectively put the stop on that. There is only one cabin that I have seen at the beginning pf the creek, and those are the only folks I have seen fishing.

I hit the stream a little too early, but had a little success with a hopper. About 9:30 after a change to a red over white clouser things picked up.
Best fish came on a size 6 stimulator. Add in a short glass 5wt rod,
I can't think what could be much more fun than that

Yep copperhead. Almost put my foot next to hi. Luckily I saw the pattern before I did. They are well camouflaged in their environment. But I do wonder if something in our DNA picks up on patterns and quickly recognize it something out of the ordinary. Either way I was too close for his comfort or mine. Which is too close!

Each trip to this creek I always see some good wildlife. Last time a Coyote was hanging out.

I don't know anything about copperheads since that is a creature we don't have here in the scablands of central Washington. I'm curious if copperheads have a warning system of any type? The venomous slithering snakes here have a rattle that will sure as heck wake you up.
Not really any warning. Pretty timid if you ask me; tbey'll Either curl up or run (slither) away. This one curled up.
