that is great! My daughter was 10 or 11 and we were picknicking on a small NE CA stream when we broke out the rod. She had been out once before with no luck and spent hours casting in the pool after watching "A River Runs Through It". We sight fished a beautiful
11" 'bow hanging out along/under a log with an upstream cast and a #16 elk hair caddis. Classic!
Good on her; she's hooked for life & you have a partner for when you get older.

Thanks, guys! She's really stoked to have landed such a monster, and even though she's got some different rods we've given her over the last year, she probably needs to expand her quiver in preparation for the next season. Maybe we can get her out in the boat on Fish Lake today if it stops raining, and hit some planters for her to take home!
