So I ignored all storm warnings thinking "whats a little wind" I ventured up to Pass this morning to get my fish on and had to battle stormy seas. I was only able to row against the wind about 200yds off the launch. I trolled a bugger and had some wicked indicator action. I had a couple tugs but nothing to hand. There was some crazy hatch action going off. The birds were having a feast picking bugs off the water. In the end I was dragging my anchor so much it got snagged on something. I didn't notice it until the front of my toon was tilting up and my ass end was in the water. I couldn't get it out so I had to cut the anchor loose so I didn't flip. So there it is my harrowing adventure on Pass Lake. I think I will wait until a calmer day.

When I left for work this morning it was nice and cool and calm outside. I almost decided it was a day off and headed to Pass Lake. I was thinking, I could easily pack my stuff and be on the lake just after day break. Then I climbed in the truck and went to work.

I was almost out there with you today.

The wind howled here yesterday, ripping into my piles of recyclable trailer scrap and messing up my yard (dang, there goes my baited tweeker trap), and the surf built overnight to combined seas of 25 feet with a 15 second period this morning. You went fishing????? :thumb:

Matt,
I've got your anchor. Last Saturday, my wife and I were fishing Pass with our club and she spotted the rope tip floating on the surface. I was able to heave it up and it's in the back of my truck. Funny, I was going to get on the forum today and ask if anyone lost one at Pass recently. If you live close by or know anyone in the Whidbey Isalnd or Fidalgo FF Clubs, I can get it to you, or if you are Pass frequently, just drop a note here and I'll try to get it to you. Small world.

Matt, there goes your plan for a shiny new anchor! Excellent find Mrs. Ron C. Ron C might want to add a finders fee (Matt makes a smooth home brew) for all the back breaking labor of hoisting up his anchor from the abyss.

"JAWS did you go surfing?" - Mumbles
Hell NO! I was in my garage hiding out! I can't fly fish in weather like that! I'm challenged when its dead calm! Matt was obviously stricken with some addictive need to fish, or otherwise temporarily insane. Maybe Pass lake is habit forming.

Actually, I was tinkering around and fine tuning the rigging on my Tarpon 140 for more effective fishing out along the jetty when the surf and wind subside to nearly flat and calm conditions. I was also figuring out how to install a sail (and possibly leeboard/outrigger combo with two sails) just in case I get a wild hair on a mellower day this summer and throw caution to the winds and head out kayak trolling in the Big Blue for salmon. I figure that even a good proven downwind kayak sail like the Pacific Action Sail would make for a sweet free ride back to the beach, taking advantage of the afternoon onshore seabreeze.
Just a pipe dream I had after perusing an Aussie yak fishing site, and then checking out the history and evolution of kayak sailing.
