I absolutely love glass rods (all I use any more) for river fishing but don't believe the beach is the best place for them. Even at 8' or 81/2' they're still heavier than graphite and will need a heavy reel to balance (unless they have a down lock reel seat) also the slower action (that we love) is not great for wind and distance imo. I've used my old Fenwick 806 a few times and even tried a Orvis SF glass 81/2' 6wt, they work but just not the right tool for the job imo.

Boy, my 8’6” glass 6wt doesn’t feel at all heavy. There is a difference between old glass rods and what’s being produced today. However, even today’s faster action glass rods won’t cut a breezy day like medium to fast graphite. But, the fight is much more fun. Pros and cons, once again.

One of these will eventually find its way into my quiver, I'm sure. Can't wait to hear about it if you end up diving deep into that rabbit hole. I'm looking at the 9 or 10 for a musky backup rod (my 7'9" 10wt Epic Bandit is my primary, not heavy at all). Glass works fine in most conditions as long as you let the rod do the work...it's pretty amazing to see the amount of distance one can get if they just take their time and load the rod deep into the butt. That said, there are compromises, such as weight (the weight difference isn't as much as some make it out to be however) and performance in high wind (honestly though, it takes a pretty stiff wind for me to be wishing I had one of my fast action graphite rods)--I still do really well with my 8'6" Fisher glass rod for virtually all of my surf perch fishing. The nice thing about these new BAGs is that Rajeff kept the length down to 8' instead of 9' which will make them a bit quicker and far easier to handle over an entire day of casting.

But seriously, I'd love to hear thoughts on the 6 if you end up with it.

Cheers!

The Bad Ass Glass looks crazy in a good way, it feels similar to the old Fenwicks, that being said;
I have the FF806 (shown below with the LP 2), FF858, and the FF 9010. All of them purchased on Ebay for around $100 each. The 806 is a great beach stick with an OBS 6wt Intermediate. Like Mark mentioned they are often challenging is non optimal conditions, but they feel great and those SRC really get it bent. Either way you go remember that in the salt its a new feel. I typically toss smaller flies with it, big ones can be a might cumbersome at times.
Cheers!
