Just purchased the Ion 10' 6wt. It will be used as a nymphing rod. I am normally against anything over 9' because of weight and my skinny little arms, but alas, I will try it. As a casting rod, it suits me very well. I believe with some practice and trying different lines I could cast this 110 feet or so. With the 6wt airflo sixth sense delta I can cast about 95 feet with no effort, just good timing. I understand from the young nymphing bucks that this is the line to use.(I purchased the 7wt airflo sixth sense delta for use in nymphing. I had the 6wt spooled already)
I also purchased the speydicator 6wt 420 grain for my Beulah 7/8 switch (winter fishing). Doing a simple single spey on my pond, the line shoots like it came out of a cannon. I hope it will improve my balloon chucking in the winter.

Just giving you my two bits.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Because he can Old Man. Being capable of casting 90' can make your job easier when the wind blows and you need to make a 50' cast. If you can barely cast 50' and the wind blows hard, how far do you think you'll get the fly out? 25'? Why you gotta crack on everyone, you not getting any time on the water lately? Snowing in Dillon already?

When I nymph I only have to go out about 30 feet. The Beaverhead where I fish is only that wide there. Besides there are fish on both sides of the river here. You don't have to search for them. It's an enjoyment to look down into a pool and see many fish. Be they be Brown's or RB's or Cutts. It don't never mind as there are fish in these river's. Not like the Washington river's, devoid of anything swimming.

Hmmmmm, a new 6 wt 10' Ion. Using it for steel, eh? This give me hope that I might be able to use my 9' 9" Fenwick Iron Feather. Only potential problem I see is that my reel, an Orvis Battenkill LA, doesn't hold a whole lotta backing!

I bought a 9'-7wght. Ion last year for carping. Its a GREAT rod for the $189.Typically I fish Sage rods for carp(XI2 and XP) but wanted something a little slower. This rod fits the bill for certain situations.I did find this rod didn't like big flies, seemed to collapse a little.I use a Rio Carp line which should turn larger flies.Been meaning to try an Airflow sometime.
