Chew,
I have only cast this rod once so take this as a starting point only. I met a fellow on one of my local rivers who was trying to fish this rod. He had it lined with a SA 7wt steelhead single hand line. Of course this line was not working very well, it was way to light. I had an Airflow 510 grain Compact Skagit line with a Rio 15' type 3 tip along so I tried it on the Echo SR7. I felt that it was a little heavy for this rod and was a little difficult for the rod to lift the sunking tip but once the sunk line was rolled up it threw the line pretty good. If I were starting with this rod I would start with a skagit line in the 450 grain range and go from there. I wish that I would have had a 450 to try because I think this rod would have thrown pretty good.

I have this rod and am throwing the 450 airflo skagit with a ridge running line..have caught steel, pinks, and bulls. Rod is versatile, affordable, and a good company to deal with..
