After spending the last week in a nice warm location, I spent the morning fishing somewhere not named MA13!

Beautiful day; cold, clear skies and a nice crisp breeze.

4-5 rezzies landed, 4 cutts and a mini blackmouth to round out the day!

Here's a pic of the nicest cutty landed. A bit snakey (post spawn?) but respectible.

The classic squimp was a strong producer today (big surprise :)).

Also, this pattern I've have had a lot of hope for since I tied some up a month or so back. Have not fished it a lot but produced over half my fish today. Stripping it slow and erratically seemed to be the ticket.

Anyone else get out on this beautiful sunny winter day?

Nicely done! I had to limit my time to an hour and half at the slack tide and not a bite, but what a beautiful morning. The sun was from behind and very little breeze so I haven't seen the water so clear and emerald green. Could see bottom a good 30 feet in front of me! Felt sort of like how I imagine fishing from a boat out on a south pacific coral atoll would be : )...could see my fly coming in from distance. BTW great looking fly!

Yeah, I hit 2 beaches with very limited success until I found the one that produced consistently.

Good on you, jas - I'll bet that was much more fun than I had removing the Juniper bushes from Hell that I finally sentenced to death. They were no match for the Stihl (it's orange - does that count?).
Ha, I probably should have been doing yard work. I have some cleanup that still needs to get done from the fall! Always next weekend and not a choice when there are fish to be caught :).

It was -30 when I went to work yesterday..... so yeah I am a little bit jealous..... oh well I'll have to make do with 3 feet of fresh POW
Well if it's 30 below for you now, I imagine you live in a place that will make me mighty jealous of the reports you post come July....

I'm on the ferry home right now. I had to start late today, fished from 11-6 and didnt get a fish. I got four beaches in and they were all relatively dead.

I tried gurglers, clousers, a keta rose, and some bunny worm patterns. Couldn't buy a bite.

It sure was a nice day though - pretty cold at times.

That second fly looks nice man it would be a great autumn fly for estuary SRC on my Oregon home waters.... do you ever tie it without the bead as more of a soft hackle when trout are rising in tidewater or at the beaches man?

No but I have tied double reverse spiders that are similar without the bead. They have worked well even on coho last fall.

As a new tier, I have watched so many fly tying videos over the last year I forget sometimes where the inspiration came from. For that fly I think the Borden Special was the inspiration...
