I have knot I use but I forgot what it's called. Oh shit, now I remember. It's called the Davy knot. Easy to tie and and you don't use that much leader to tie it. With this knot I never end up with that curly Q at the end of my leader.

I use a couple different knots, depending.... Small flies usually get a clinch knot, or an improved clinch knot. I like a Duncan Loop for just about everything else, but will sometimes use a perfection loop if I don't want the loop to close.

Depends on tippet material. Clinch and turle are good for mono, but I kept losing fish when i switched to fluorocarbon, so i didn't really trust it. Now I use uni knot for almost everything. It allows a loop for nymphing, which loosens up after each fish, and the double uni is the nuts for building leaders You can attach widely different sizes of line, attach mono to fluoro,or braided, and I've had virtually NO knot failures from the uni.

In my opinion a Duncan Loop/UNI Knot is the most versatile and just as solid as any if not more so. The other nice thing about these is the small buffer of the loop to dampen hit iif you fish with these super fast action rods.

My friend used to insist on the improved clinch until a more knowledgeable angler told us the improved isn't needed unless the fish are smart enough to untie it. It''s the clinch or some type of loop. Pretty sure the loop I tie is something I made up...... and a good blood knot will always break first. That's my experience.

"RUNNING KNOT"------This is my favorite knot that I have used for 50 years. It has NEVER FAILED me. It is FAST TO TIE and EASY TO TIE. It is SIMPLE TO TIE. Try it and tell me what you think. I use it for mainly dry flies, but also for sea run cutthroat. I don't normally use it for salmon fishing, but go to a clinch knot. What is also great about this knot is, when the fish are rising all over hell, and you are in a hurry to change flies, it's a godsend... I should point out that I cinch the knot first, pull it OVER in front of the eye, then slip it down TO the eye, tightening both pieces of leader material.

Uni knot usually. Just got back from the beach and gave the Davy knot a try. I like it... Simple, effective and doesn't take up much tippet.
I'm curious what people like for leader/leader. I mostly use a double surgeons but its a big ugly knot with the heavy stuff.
